Heroes? Not only grammatically a masculine concept, the word hero is colored in every respect by an excessive amount of testosterone and steroids. Time to change that. This performance is an ode to women.

Theater great Elsie de Brauw plays a selection of important (militant) women from recent history who have colored our image of women: Rosa Luxemburg, Hannah Arendt, Tracey Emin, Jane Fonda and, last but not least, an ode to women whose names are not immediately apparent. ringing a bell in our ears despite their struggle, persistence, or sacrifice.

This series of female portraits, played by Elsie de Brauw, takes you through passionate fights, shameless confessions, intimate love stories and unresolved pain. We taste the dozens of flavors that a heroine existence can have. In their soliloquy these women are sometimes supported, sometimes disturbed, by a handful of men on stage. The latter are there and finally do what no one ever expected: keep quiet and listen.

The text is written by three writers with a passion for these women: Joke Hermsen writes about Hannah Arendt and Rosa Luxemburg, Neske Beks about Jane Fonda and De Vrouw Die Niet Publicelijk Her Muscles Rolt and Dana Linssen about Tracey Emin. The editorial staff of the verbiage is in the hands of regular partner Joachim Robbrecht. Sarah Moeremans, known for her illustrious series Crashtest Ibsen and What’s in A Fairy Tale?
