A milestone in the history of music and dance, Maurice Ravel's Boléro is one of the most recognized French works in the world. When Ravel was about to embark on a four-month concert tour of the United States and Canada, his friend and patron Ida Rubinstein asked him to write a "ballet with a Spanish character". Ravel, sensitive to this idea, chose the bolero, a traditional Andalusian dance. And so the work was born.
